YRDSB student support, explained normally
IEPs should not feel like a secret file.
A lot of students hear words like IEP, accommodations, SERT, modified work, or special education and instantly feel confused. TryMink is here to explain it in normal words, so students can understand what support they have, what they can ask for, and who can help them at school.
What is an IEP?
An IEP is basically a plan for how school can support you. It can include things like extra time, quiet spaces, assistive technology, chunked work, different ways to show learning, or modified expectations if needed. It is supposed to match your actual strengths and needs, not make you feel embarrassed.
What does a SERT do?
A SERT is a Special Education Resource Teacher. In simple words, they are one of the main people who help with your IEP, accommodations, support plans, assessments, and communication between you, your teachers, and sometimes your parents or guardians.
Why TryMink talks about this
When you are newly diagnosed or trying to figure out school support, it can feel awkward asking questions. TryMink makes it easier to understand what things mean before you walk into a meeting, email a teacher, or talk to your SERT.

Study Strategies That Actually Work
Traditional study advice wasnt made for ADHD brains. These techniques work with how you think, not against it.
Work for 25 minutes, break for 5. The time pressure helps ADHD brains focus and the breaks prevent burnout.
Lo-fi beats, white noise, or nature sounds can help reduce distracting thoughts and improve concentration.
Instead of re-reading, test yourself. Write questions, use flashcards, or teach the material out loud.
Having another person present (even virtually) helps maintain focus. Their presence creates gentle accountability.
Dont fight your need for novelty—work with it. Plan varied activities and switch subjects to stay engaged.
Break tasks into the smallest possible steps. "Study math" becomes "Open textbook to page 47."
Built by someone who actually gets the struggle.
My name is Shuja. I created TryMink because I struggled with ADHD, especially after being newly diagnosed. For most of my life I've been called lazy, dumb, or delusional... Why? Because I had concerns that I had ADHD.
I tried building routines, searching for tools, and forcing myself into systems that were supposed to help, but most of them didn't. So I wanted to make something that feels calmer, simpler, and more realistic for people whose brains don't work in a straight line.
